C5 Updates

C5 First Report 2012

Celebrating our First Anniversary May 2011- 2012

We are excited to provide a brief update of what we at C5 have been up to in the first report for 2012. We would like to welcome our latest addition to the collaborator team, Vinece Pastor, who will be responsible for the development of Contact Center Diversity Solutions - a high turnover environment yet ideal opportunity for inclusion of talent with disabilities. Vinece has worked with Katherine McCary, C5 founding partner, both at SunTrust and the DC Metro BLN and brings her passion for inclusion and expertise in contact centers to C5. Welcome Vinece, who joins our other fabulous team of collaborators: Tammie McNaughton and Karen Quammen!

It has been an interesting first few months that has included some great global exposure for us in Barcelona, Spain,  thanks to Martha Artiles, C5 Managing Partner. This has included engaging conversations with national leaders, such as Assistant Secretary Kathy Martinez, on the critical impending changes to the OFCCP’s Section 503 regulations affecting all federal contractors and their sub-contractors. In addition we have convened best practices conversations of diversity/disability practices from companies such as AOL, Medtronic, 3M, Cargill, Northrop Grumman, Booz Allen Hamilton and SAIC through BLN affiliates including the Minnesota BLN and the DC Metro BLN.

Please find highlights on the following pages and we look forward to more engagements and conversations with all of you!

C5 Updates - 1st Report 2012

Program Design and Delivery

Ø  Designed and implemented a very successful HRCI accredited program for the Minnesota BLN in association with  The Multicultural Forum, an annual national diversity conference.  The session, "Innovation: Disability - A Diversity Talent and Compliance Strategy", included a keynote from Assistant Secretary Kathy Martinez and panelists who shared their views  into the future of diversity/disability and best practices of how to create truly inclusive diversity strategies to an audience of 65 employees and community based organizers. Global, national and local Subject Matter Experts participated as panel members from such notable organizations including OFCCP, Medtronic, Cargill, Best Buy and 3M.

Ø  Designed the Contemporary Diversity Conversations Series, a “meeting in the box" concept for several corporate clients to assist Disability Employee Resource Groups (ERG) to engage their fellow ERG's to raise the awareness of disability through facilitated discussions that their ERG leaders would be trained to conduct. This series will raise the awareness that disability affects everyone in the organization and truly inclusive companies weave this understanding into how they operate.

Ø  Provided curriculum content to the University of Wisconsin Path to Employment Resource Center, a national service provider organization, to help their community based agencies better understand how to connect with businesses and position their candidates with disabilities for employment. The content is being included in a program that will serve as an accreditation curriculum that is being led by APSE.

Strategic Partnership and Leadership Positions

Ø  As a result of our unique corporate experience and program results, we are in conversation with DirectEmployers Associationto provide a webinar series. DirectEmployers Association isa nonprofit HR consortium of leading global employers formed to improve labor market efficiency through the sharing of best practices, research and the development of technology.

Ø  We assisted Virginia Commonwealth University Rehabilitation Research and Training Center (VCU RRTC) through outreach to 42 employers for an evidence based research project. This was our second partnership with VCU RRTC since C5 was formed.

Ø  We recently partnered with Owl Knights Studio, a website development company, to assist newly formed BLNs in the development of accessible websites.

Ø  We are working with Noggin DiggerTM, an on-line educational engagement tool, to develop disability-focused material for BLN use.

Ø  C5 is also involved as steering committee/advisory board members in national organizations that promote and prepare people with disabilities for employment. These organizations include:

·         APSE Employer Leadership Forum

·         National Youth Transition Center Collaborative, serving on their Leadership Council

·         Greater Washington Internship Coalition (GWIC)

·         California Minority Youth with Disabilities Summit

BLN Affiliate Engagement/Leadership

·         Silicon Valley BLN

·         Wichita BLN

·         Minnesota BLN
